Stud frame vs fridge panel: why we build stud frame

14 October 2026 · Midwest Modular

Frame going up in the Geraldton factory

Transportable buildings are usually built one of two ways: with insulated “fridge” panels, or with a traditional stud frame that's lined and insulated like a site-built home. Every Midwest Modular building is stud framed.

Why stud frame

  • It looks and feels like a home: plasterboard walls and ceilings, painted, with skirtings and architraves.
  • Easier to change: power points, plumbing and fixtures can be added or moved later.
  • Insulation to suit: wall and ceiling insulation is chosen to meet the energy rating for your climate zone.
  • Repairs are straightforward: any local tradesperson can work on it.

Our homes are built under cover in our Geraldton factory, then transported and finished on your block anywhere in WA.
